The Eau de Cologne, invented in the 17th century, has consistently inspired perfumers. Always pushing innovation, Jean-Claude Ellena chose to re-write its formula to create a new slightly bitter Eau for Frédéric Malle. Hence, he requested that a bitter orange essence (bigarade in Provençal) be developed, that rendered such a composition feasible. Perfume experts would recognize Cologne Bigarade as the ultimate step in the history of the Eau de Cologne. Thorough, personal, and stripped to its essential. A modern classic.
