Saint Laurent

Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent is born in 1936 in Oran. In his youth, the one we will know as Yves Saint Laurent is already a great admirer of fashion. He reads fashion magazines and literally studies them to reproduce the clothing he discovers. Aged 17, he will be awarded 3rd place at the annual competition of "Secrétariat de la Laine" in the category "dresses", and is bound to meet one of the jury-members, a certain Christian Dior. Their collaboration gives birth to simply historic collections. In 1962, he creates his couture house Saint Laurent, as well as his eponymous first collection. In 1966, his smoking for women is a revolution, and in 1968, he comes up with his safari jacket with sexy tunic looks, and his jumpsuit, which is now a staple in female wardrobes. Inspired by the masculine wardrobe, the French designer highlights women's curves with a hint of boldness. Years go by, and so do the house's new art directors such as Alber Elbaz, Tom Ford and then Hedi Slimane in 2012. The latter will make the brand's codes his own, modernizes them and creates Saint Laurent Paris. He leaves the couture house in 2016, and Anthony Vaccarello, a Belgian stylist, will take over from him, ready to take up Saint Laurent's torch.
