Product Details
With this sculpted candle, TRUDON pays tribute to a famous French sculptor. Louise and Alexandre were the children of the architect Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart (1739-1813), famous for the construction of the Paris Stock Exchange and the transformation of the Père Lachaise cemetery. Born to a painter mother and a father who was a caretaker at the Louvre, Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828) was very early to work with the best sculptors of the time, such as Jean Baptiste Pigalle and Jean Baptiste Lemoyne. The man who was to be known as the sculptor of the Enlightenment set in stone portraits of the personalities of his time, such as the tsarina Diderot, Voltaire and Rousseau. The most brilliant portraitist of the French 18th century, Houdon kept a keen interest in the theme of childhood throughout his life. The portraits of the Brongniart children made in 1777 express with strength and tenderness the trend for a subject that was never to go out of fashion.
