Kenzo

First called Jungle Jap, the brand Kenzo was founded in Paris in the 1970s by Kenzo Takada, a young designer who had just arrived from his native Japan. In his boutique located Place des Victoires, he sew his first collection from old kimonos and colourful fabrics bought at the market. His exuberant world quickly earned him recognition in the then buzzing fashion scene. Breaking the codes of Parisian chic, the brand brought an energy that was a hit with the young generations. Colourful prints, oversized flowers and Asian and African influences are all part of Kenzo's DNA. In 1999, Kenzo Takada retired from the label owned by LVMH. In 2011, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, the couple behind the Opening Ceremony brand and shop, took over. First seen as outsiders by the Paris fashion sphere, they got instant success with their first collection that launched the iconic tiger head embroidered sweatshirt. Cool, connected and creative, the two Californians brought a new energy to the brand, drawing inspiration from its happy and colourful roots.
