about the creator
Relished by Hollywood stars since 1920, the shoemaker Salvatore Ferragamo settled in California and his brand’s shoes are the epitome of Italian elegance. Back in Florence in 1927, he founded his couture house where he created his perfectly crafted shoes that became known throughout Europe. In 1954, Salvatore Ferragamo created a pair of suede pumps for Audrey Hepburn. Their great success led them to become one of the brand’s most iconic designs.
In 1969, the brand started manufacturing other leather goods, such as handbags featuring the typical “Gancino” metal closure, which now also embellishes Ferragamo’s shoes.
Designed by Salvatore’s daughter Fiamma Di San Giuliano Ferragamo, the Vara pumps are another one of the brand’s signature designs. Created in 1960, this must-have shoe features a round toe, a small heel and a grosgrain bow held back by a metal buckle engraved with the brand’s name.
