Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs was born in 1963 in New York, where his grandmother living in Manhattan taught him how to knit as a child, and encouraged his interest in fashion design early on. At the age of 15, he went to the High School of Art and Design. He met the fashion designer Perry Ellis at the Charivari luxury fashion store where he worked. After graduating in 1981, he studied at the Parsons School of Design, where he created a collection of oversized jumpers. He then worked with clothing manufacturer Reuben Thomas, whith whom he created the label Sketchbook. In 1988, while working with Perry Ellis, his mentor, Marc Jacobs was named vice president of women's design. In 1992 he became the guru of grunge with a world renowned women's collection combining frilly floral dresses with combat boots. His own eponymous brand followed in 1993, and he opened his first boutiques in 1997. Still shaping American fashion with his unique vision, Marc Jacobs designs everyday luxury, believing that every woman is the star of her own movie. His signature Snapshot Camera bag in saffiano leather comes in a plethora of colours and styles, and is a modern woman's must-have, as are his Editor handbags and Grind tote bags. Thanks to his collection of exchangeable shoulder straps, his crossbody bags can be customized. His children's clothing brand Little Marc Jacobs was founded in 2005. Playful designs for boys and girls come in colourful floral prints, embellished with patches and the brand's signature people, Mr Marc for boys and Miss Marc for girls. From dresses to jeans and from T-shirts to jackets, it has everything you need to dress your little ones.
