MISSONI

Well-known women's knitwear, fashion and design brand Missoni is first and foremost a family business founded in Gallarate, Italy, in 1953 by Ottavio and Rosita Missoni. Their children Vittorio, Luca and Angela, who has been the brand's creative director since 1996, will grow up with their parents working in the luxury fashion industry, and will be more and more involved in the label's creative process. The brand starts out with a line of knitwear tracksuits with convenient zippered legs. The signature zigzag pattern is born when the two founders discover the versatile Raschel knitting machine in a shawl factory in their neighbourhood, able to create wonderful jacquard fabrics. Missoni will make its debuts at its first fashion show in Florence in 1967, where the couple presents sheer Lurex dresses and blouses that will cause a scandal, as the models had to leave their bras, which will actually help the brand to become known, and will inspire Yves Saint Laurent his next collection of sheer women's clothes. The cool girls of the ‘70s will soon embrace Missoni's colourful tunics, wide-leg trousers, skirts and dresses, after Diana Vreeland, editor of the American Vogue, published the label's fashion in the magazine. With its multicolour aesthetic, Missoni keeps influencing contemporary lifestyle, mixing zigzag patterns, stripes and waves. Still immediately recognized today, the brand is joined by Rossella Jardini, former creative director for Moschino, in 2014. Missoni brands include Missoni Sport, M Missoni, a more affordable line of dresses, tops and jumpers, and Missoni Mare, proposing swimsuits, bikinis and beachwear for women. Add some colour to your daily routine with Missoni's tops and trousers and M Missoni's dresses or get the latest zigzag pattern bikinis and tunics from Missoni Mare at Bongénie Grieder.
