    about the creator

    BALENCIAGA

Cristobal Balenciaga’s moto was “volume and experimentation”. The Spanish “couturier/sculptor” founded his couture house in 1919. He revolutionized the cuts of feminine garments with his modern and refined designs in the 1950s by playing with shoulders and waistlines in creations such as the Cocoon coat or the Baby Doll dress.
In 1997, Nicolas Ghesquière became the art director at Balenciaga and got the honorable fashion house back under the spotlight with his biker world inspired rock creations. He dressed his muse Charlotte Gainsbourg and launched the all-time cult it-bag Classic City. Then came Alexander Wang in 2012, followed by Demna Gvasalia in 2015. The founder of the cutting-edge brand Vetements reinforced Balenciaga’s DNA in his creations, and keeps playing with volumes and streamlined styles.
